Its been a long time coming, but we have finally got our spilt air conditioner installation license.

For the past 6 months Gold Coast Sparkys have been installing and replacing airconditioners for the residents of the Gold Coast. We have had many requests for service or new installs that we have had to forward to other AC installers. But now we are able to size and install new units, and also decommission, remove, replace or even relocate old air-conditioning units.

As we are electricians also, we can run a new circuit in for the air conditioner, so we are now a one stop shop for AC installation. We can also take the old unit with us and dispose of it for you,

If your looking to beat the heat or stay warm in winter, contact us and we can go thru your options for Air Conditioning in your home or office.

Oh boy…. New rules means lots of study for us here at Gold Coast Sparkys.

This new version was rumored to be released in 2016, but as the industry was changing so much, it was delayed until the draft was released in 2017. After the comments had been made by contractors around the country, the final and new version of AS3000 was released.

The changes include new requirements for safety switches to be installed on every circuit in new construction, alterations where the change is not “like for like”, and for switch board upgrades where all protective devices are changed. Changes have been made to the zoning of cooking equipment and the clearances for electrical socket outlets and switches. There are changes to our earthing system and its requirements, changes to how we run cables thru the ceiling space to reduce damage and risk of electric shock.

An Addition to the rules is for electric vehicle charging stations, as they are high-current and merit special attention.

There is a 6 month transition period from 26th June 2018 from the old rules & there are over 100 changes and new rules in this edition of AS3000 so we are busy checking all our work procedures to ensure we fall in line with the new changes.

New smoke alarm legislation will make Queensland households the safest in Australia in relation to fire safety.

The new legislation specifies that all Queensland dwellings will be required to have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in all bedrooms, in hallways that connect bedrooms with the rest of the dwelling and on every level.

A 10-year phased rollout of interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms in Queensland will happen over three specific periods starting from 1 January 2017.

What does this mean for your home?

To comply with legislation, interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms are required:

From 1 January 2017: in all new dwellings and substantially renovated dwellings (this applies to building applications submitted from 1 January 2017).

From 1 January 2022: in all domestic dwellings leased or sold.

From 1 January 2027: in all other domestic dwellings.

For more information on these changes visit the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services’ website.

If your property needs the smoke alarms updated or new ones installed, we supply and install RED Smoke alarms – Wireless Interlinked or hard wired, 240 volt or 10 year lithium battery. These RED smoke alarms also come with a 10 year warranty, compared to Clipsal that only provides a 5 year warranty on their 10 Year Lithium Smoke Alarms.
